The Marist Foundation will be awarding eighty endowed scholarships
for the 2009-2010 school year. The deadline for 2010-2011
scholarship applications is Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
The scholarship program is different from tuition assistance.
Each endowed scholarship has its own criteria. Please read the
criteria carefully and make sure you complete all forms necessary as
required. To qualify for any financial need based scholarships
the family needs to complete and submit the
FACTS form for
financial determination. We are encouraging all families to fill
out
FACTS applications, so no one is overlooked for qualifying.
Only one application is needed to apply for all scholarships.
Please review the application carefully and fill in all areas
that apply to the student. This information, along with a cover
letter and résumé, is used to determine who qualifies for each
scholarship. The résumé should have the student’s activities
(both in and out of school), membership in civic groups, volunteer
work, interests, and hobbies, in order for the Scholarship committee
to see each student’s commitment to the school and the community.
The cover letter should be written by the student and needs
to address what Marist High School and receiving a scholarship would
mean to them. Some scholarships may ask for additional information
such as a short essay. Letters of recommendation or references can
be included, but note that teachers and staff of Marist High School
submit references through a separate process. Do not request letters
from them. Please limit these additional letters to 3 pages
only.
Several of these scholarships are geared to
specific needs, activities, and academics. Make sure that your
résumé and cover letter address areas that demonstrate the student’s
qualifications for particular scholarships. (For example, the Halbrook Scholarship, which is awarded by the Halbrook family, has
as the main criteria the student’s demonstrated initiative in
helping pay for his/her tuition). Bear in mind that your application
form, cover letter and résumé, have to represent you on paper to the
selection committee.
