Math is associated with a certain mystique. Seen as abstract and elusive, it is a source of both challenge and failure. I have always believed each of us possesses a capacity to reason mathematically and have fun in the process; I am charged with making challenging, meaningful content accessible to all. After 12 years in Catholic education in southern California at the high school and college levels, I was fortunate to take time off to raise two children who have since benefited from a Marist education. My return to the classroom offers a chance to explore the wonders of geometry, algebra, calculus, and discrete mathematics with my students through critical inquiry, the natural world, and human design. Together we will puzzle over invented mathematical ideas as we hope for glimpses of mathematical truth while guided by the rules of the game. How terrific is that?
